Teaching Self-Advocacy

Self-advocacy is a way for people to communicate their needs, while also building confidence + self-esteem. It promotes independence and empowerment.

Here are some starter self-advocacy statements:

🗣️“help me”

🗣️“i need space”

🗣️“stop”

🗣️“i need a break”

🗣️“i need more time”

🗣️“i don’t like that”

🗣️“no”

🗣️“it’s too loud”

Self-advocacy can also include: asking questions, seeking clarification, asking for assistance or accommodations, communicating likes/dislikes.

✨Teach your students the essential skill of self-advocacy.
