Every person has the right to dignity and respect. When maintaining client dignity consider your attitude, behaviors, and conversations.

Here’s a list of ways to maintain client dignity:

•show respect + kindness

•keep privacy + provide a cover if needed

•maintain confidentiality

•ask for permission

•offer choices + let them choose

•promote self-advocacy

•individualize programs + strategies + activities

•communicate professionally

•don’t talk down or belittle

•be compassionate + empathetic

•watch your body language + gestures

•respect personal space

•recognize assent & assent withdrawal
